ExodusPoint hired a Balyasny quant head who was one of Eisler Capital's earliest technologists
Hedge funds Balyasny Asset Management and ExodusPoint have had a pretty decent year so far; each is up more than 10% for the year through to September. Rob Buckle, a senior quant at the former, has made a switch to the latter, but he also had a stint at a hedge fund having a decidedly less impressive 2025.
Rob Buckle, head of core quants at Balyasny, has joined ExodusPoint in an undisclosed capacity. He spent the last three years at Balyasny, but has held a number of senior quant roles elsewhere in finance, including four years at Brevan Howard and a three-year stint as co-head of quant research and technology for Rokos Capital as it was transitioning from family office to hedge fund.
In 2016, though, Buckle left Rokos and joined Eisler Capital in its infancy, claiming to be the fund's head of quant research and technology on LinkedIn. He said he was tasked with building its platform from scratch, but left in 2017 after just 14 months in the role. After leaving Eisler, he briefly returned to Rokos, this time just as a quant analyst, before ultimately leaving for Balyasny. Buckle's time at Eisler ended before the arrival of Sam Wisnia and Angelo Haritsis, who are thought to have run the quant and technology teams since their arrival in 2018.
ExodusPoint has tapped Balyasny for technology talent in the past. Shen Xu, Balyasny's head of natural language processing, joined ExodusPoint as its head of artificial intelligence in October 2023. Earlier this year, though, a senior ExodusPoint trader went in the opposite direction; London-based ExodusPoint partner Yash Agarwal joined Balyasny in May.
