Now Qube hired Eisler's head of data engineering
As hedge fund Eisler Capital closes its doors, its people are slowly but surely emerging elsewhere. Ex-Eisler portfolio managers (PMs) and quants have been sighted this week at Balyasny Asset Management and Verition. Now, David Ainsworth, Eisler's head of data engineering, has arrived at Qube Research and Technologies (QRT).
Ainsworth spent two and a half years at Eisler after joining from G-Research, the London-based electronic trading firm that likes to be a bit secret.
QRT is an interesting choice of employer, but one which probably makes good sense if you are a data guy. As we have reported here, some insiders there have complained about the fact that pay doesn't match their individual performance. Others claim that QRT has a futuristic structure where pay is linked to the performance of the firm as a whole and individuals are encouraged to generate trade signals that are easily automated.
Given that Eisler's failure seems partly the result of excessive pay for its PMs, this might be perfect for Ainsworth, seen here smiling broadly.
Data engineering is increasingly critical to funds' performance and is at the forefront of changes relating to AI. Speaking earlier this month, Schonfeld CEO Ryan Tolkin said investment edge is down to a fund's ability to isolate signal from noise and that AI data parsing is becoming critical to that.
