Deutsche Bank hired a Morgan Stanley MD who claimed to be falsely accused of upsetting colleagues

Last year, Morgan Stanley's global head of commodities, Kow Attah-Mensah, departed under mysterious circumstances. Despite having unfinished business with his former employer, he has managed to find a new opportunity at Deutsche bank.

Attah-Mensah is joining Deutsche Bank in New York as its global head of commodities. Although the bank wound down parts of its commodities team back in 2013, it kept around a smaller, focused group to invest in commodities derivatives, which Attah-Mensah now takes charge of.

It's a comeback for Attah-Mensah who has been out of the market since last March. He spent 18 years at Morgan Stanley, making MD in 2017, and held various senior roles in its commodities business. He served as co-head of power and gas structuring, then as head of North American power and gas before being promoted to head commodities in its entirety.

Attah-Mensah was allegedly terminated by Morgan Stanley after an internal investigation regarding interactions with his colleagues. His lawyer, John D. Singer, told Bloomberg that this investigation was "bogus" and that Attah-Mensah is "an employee of the utmost veracity, loyalty and honor." Attah-Mensah plans to prosecute his former employer; his lawyer has a strong track record in similar cases which suggests he might be successful.

A Deutsche Bank insider said that the bank conducted a thorough review of Attah-Mensah's background prior to his arrival and is confident he will uphold the bank's own conduct standards. Deutsche Bank declined to comment.
