Job Wrap: Mosler quits Merrill; Gorringe quits JP Morgan Cazenove
Matthias Mosler left Merrill Lynch where he was head of investment banking for Austria and Germany. He joined the bank in 2000 and said that after 20 years in banking he felt it time to leave. Merrill Lynch said Lothar Spaeth, its vice chairman for Europe, will replace Mosler in Germany.
Simon Gorringe quit JP Morgan Cazenove, where he was a managing director in UK investment banking. Gorringe is the first managing director to leave since the UK joint venture was announced last year. He joins Merrill Lynch in a similar role.
Equities: BNP Paribas hires from A.T. Kearney
BNP Paribas hired Jean-Eric Pacini from A.T. Kearney to its equities and derivatives division as head of structured products sales. Pacini was in charge of the corporate and investment banking practice at A.T. Kearney. He will be based in Paris.
Fixed income: Goldman grabs Gilday
Goldman Sachs hired Ian Gilday, former head of European leveraged capital markets at Merrill Lynch. Gilday left Merrill two months ago. At Goldman he will take charge of the loan capital markets syndication business.
SG Corporate & Investment Banking hired Tanneguy de Carne from BNP Paribas as head of its new European high-yield capital markets team. De Carne was managing director and deputy head of high yield capital markets at BNP.
Royal Bank of Scotland hired Eden Richie as a managing director focused on relationships with northern European banks. Richie, one of the best known European debt capital market bankers, left the industry last year after working at Lehman Brothers.
Fund Management: still firing ahead
There were the now usual rush of moves in fund management and its related areas last week as well.
Merrill Lynch Investment Managers appointed Quintin Price from Gartmore as chief investment officer for the Europe, Middle East, Africa and Pacific region. At Gartmore Price was joint global CIO of equities.
BNP Paribas Asset Management hired Shona Whitesmith from Morley Fund Management as head of institutional business development in the UK and Ireland.
The exodus continued at Deutsche Asset Management. Standard Life Investments hired Mark Connolly as executive director for distribution and client service. Connolly was managing director and head of European & Middle East institutional business at DeAM. Diane Seymour Williams, managing director of international client relationships at DeAM, also left.
Credit Suisse Asset Management hired Jeff Currington from HSBC asset management as head of European equities. Currington was head of the European desk at HSBC.
Millennium Global Investors, a London-based hedge fund, hired Roger Nightingale, an independent investment consultant, as a global economist.
Watson Wyatt made four appointments to its London investment practice, including one senior consultant and three investment consultants. Jenni Nicholls joins as a senior consultant from rivals Hewitt Associates. Lloyd Raynor joins as an investment consultant from Mercer Investment Consulting. Paul Francis will join from Mellon Investment Consulting in May. Sasha Lanham-Parker joins from Swiss bank Julius Baer.
Commodities: Mitsui hires oil traders
Mitsui, one of Japan's largest trading houses, hired five oil traders from Standard Bank in London. Dimitri Lobanov-Rostovsky, Jack Kellett, Conor McCarthy, Steve Smethurst and Jamie Knutt left Standard last week and are likely to emerge at Mitsui soon.
