Role Summary

The Head of Agile Practice is responsible for driving delivery excellence across Equiniti by defining, embedding, and evolving Agile ways of working. The role ensures Agile principles, standards, and best practices are consistently adopted across product lines and delivery teams to improve predictability, quality, transparency, and business outcomes.

Leading a team of Agile Practitioners, the role partners with Release Train Engineers, Scrum Masters, Product, Technology, and Portfolio leaders to strengthen organisational capability, embed continuous improvement, and drive adoption of Equiniti's Agile operating model.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

Agile Practice Leadership
  • Define, maintain, and evolve Equiniti's Agile operating model, standards, frameworks, and ways of working.
  • Act as the CoE for Agile delivery, promoting consistency, best practice, and continuous improvement across product lines and delivery teams.
  • Champion Agile values, principles, and behaviours across the organisation.
  • Lead the evolution and adoption of Agile 2.0, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.

Capability Development & Coaching
  • Lead and develop the Agile Practitioner team, fostering a culture of coaching, enablement, and continuous learning.
  • Establish learning pathways, coaching frameworks, communities of practice, and development programmes to strengthen Agile capability.
  • Partner with leaders, RTEs, Scrum Masters, and delivery teams to improve Agile maturity, team effectiveness, and delivery outcomes.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices across teams.

Delivery Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Drive consistent planning, execution, and improvement practices that increase delivery predictability, quality, and efficiency.
  • Use delivery data, flow metrics, team health insights, and feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead initiatives that improve organisational effectiveness, reduce delivery friction, and enhance flow.
  • Define and monitor measures of Agile effectiveness and support teams in achieving improvements.

Governance & Standards
  • Define and promote Agile governance frameworks that provide transparency, accountability, and control.
  • Ensure teams adopt agreed standards, practices, and operating principles.
  • Continuously improve delivery processes, tooling, and reporting to enhance visibility and decision-making.

Strategic Partnership & Transformation
  • Partner with RTEs, Scrum Masters, Product, Technology, and Portfolio leaders to embed best practice and delivery excellence.
  • Support transformation initiatives through coaching, change leadership, and Agile enablement.
  • Contribute to strategies that improve organisational agility, responsiveness, and business outcomes.

Supporting the transition to Agentic software delivery
  • Support the evolution of delivery practices , helping teams adapt from traditional Agile frameworks to AI-enabled software delivery.
  • Facilitate the adoption of new practices, workflows and operating models, ensuring teams can effectively integrate AI capabilities into day-to-day delivery.
  • Partner with leaders across Product and Delivery to identify barriers to change, drive continuous improvement and embed sustainable new ways of working.

Skills, Capabilities and Attributes

Essential Skills:
  • Proven experience leading Agile practices, Agile CoE, Agile transformations, or delivery excellence functions.
  • Experience implementing and scaling Agile frameworks across multiple teams, programmes, or value streams.
  • Experience embedding new ways of working across complex organisations.
  • Track record of improving delivery effectiveness, predictability, quality, and team performance through Agile practices.
  • Experience coaching and influencing leaders and delivery teams at all levels.
  • Strong knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, Lean, and SAFe.
  • Experience in product-led or customer-focused environments.
  • Experience measuring Agile maturity, delivery effectiveness, and continuous improvement through data-driven insights.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and organisational development skills.
  • Relevant Agile certification (SAFe SPC, RTE, Agile Coach, Scrum Master, or equivalent).

Desirable Skills:
  • Experience leading enterprise-scale Agile transformations.
  • Experience implementing delivery metrics, dashboards, and improvement programmes.
  • Knowledge of Product Operating Models and Value Stream organisations.
  • Experience establishing Agile training and certification programmes.
  • Experience working in regulated environments.
  • Understanding of OKRs and outcome-based planning.
  • Strong understanding of AI-assisted software delivery, agentic workflow design, prompt engineering, responsible AI practices, and the ability to coach teams in adopting AI-enabled ways of working across the product and engineering lifecycle.
