Tradition is the interdealer broking arm of Compagnie Financière Tradition and one of the world's largest interdealer brokers in over-the-counter financial and commodity related products. CFT is represented in over 28 countries, employing over 2,500 people.

Tradition is currently seeking to appoint a Financial Controller for a fixed term to be based within the London office.

Main responsibilities within the Financial Controller position include:

Managing and leading the Legal Entity Control (LEC) team to deliver a comprehensive service to the business

Month end reporting:

  • Preparing month end timetable setting out key time frames and deliverables;
  • Holding monthly team meetings and briefing on any matters arising;
  • Overseeing the month end accounting cycle;
  • Ensuring all key controls are operating effectively
  • Helping the team with complex or one-off accounting entries;
  • Reviewing all entities’ results before the ‘soft close’ notification is sent out;
  • Reviewing the reporting packages to Group Finance;
  • Overseeing the preparation of current and deferred tax provisions;
  • Reviewing variance analysis commentary and ensuring this is valid, complete and accurate;
  • Reviewing month end balance sheet reconciliations and following up on any necessary actions;
  • Acting as a key contact for queries from management and the business;
  • Overseeing and helping to resolve queries from Group Finance;
  • Escalate urgent and important matters to the CFO

Year-end and statutory reporting:

  • Planning, organising and overseeing the year end process,
  • Oversight and review of the statutory accounts preparation process;
  • Primary contact for external auditors and oversight of audit process (half year, interim and year-end);
  • Collation, investigation and resolution of audit queries;
  • Logging and processing of resulting audit adjustments;

People management:

  • Providing support, development and coaching to the LEC team and the LEC team lead;
  • Taking responsibility for the team appraisal process, objective setting and monitoring
  • Fostering a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed
  • Communicating in a friendly, helpful and non-prejudicial manner in your dealings with employees, clients and/or customers as you will be regarded as a representative of your department as well as the Group and you should behave accordingly

Business and departments partnering:

  • Developing a good understanding of the business and products of each entity;
  • Liaising with the front office as relevant for the completion of tasks or information requests;
  • Liaising with the PMO and IT on new IT projects, ensuring appropriate adherence to Group policies and the correct accounting treatment and review of the monthly IT timesheet allocations;
  • Liaising with Group Finance and overseas offices and ensuring all inter-company balances are agreed and any disputes resolved;
  • Liaising with Company Secretary, Compliance, Legal and other back office departments as relevant for the completion of tasks or information request;

Financial accounting:

  • Assisting the CFO, the Finance teams and payroll with the accounting treatment of non-routine transactions;
  • Assisting with setting up new legal entities, accounting for corporate actions or new business ventures;
  • Maintaining and enforcing internal control processes;
  • Keeping up to date on upcoming accounting technical matters and the impact on the Tradition London Group entities;

Liquidity reporting:

  • Review of the 12 month cash flow forecasts before submission to the Group team;
  • Weekly FCA liquidity reporting for the London regulated entities;
  • Input into the liquidity stress testing across the entities;
  • Review and approval of all intercompany settlements;
  • Online banking approval as required;

Taxation reporting:

  • Review of monthly corporation and deferred tax provision calculations;
  • Input into quarterly Payment on Account calculations;
  • Review of annual corporation tax computations and returns;
  • Review of the annual PSA calculation;
  • Ensuring the appropriate accounting for VAT across the entities, including monthly accruals;
  • Liaising with the Group Head of Tax and assisting with ad hoc tax queries;

Regulatory reporting:

  • Review of FCA (including COREP) and NFA periodic returns;
  • Assisting with the preparation of the ICAAP annual update;
  • Review and approval of the month end FX hedging;
  • Addressing ad hoc requests from the regulators;
  • Keeping abreast of changes arising from regulatory developments;


  • Undertaking and passing all necessary training in line with the requirements of the role
  • Adhering to all Tradition policies and applicable legislation
  • Any other duties reasonably requested

Key skills and experience required in this role:

  • Experience of working in a generalist Finance role
  • Previous Finance experience at middle/senior management level
  • Finance/Broking sector experience an advantage
  • Qualified Accountant 
  • Financial year end and audit experience essential
  • IFRS knowledge an asset
  • Experience of managing teams required
  • Statutory accounts preparation experience relevant
  • Corporation and deferred taxation knowledge desired
  • Financial services experience desired
  • Proficient systems knowledge
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills especially excel
