The opportunity

As a Lead of the Sustainability and Ethics ( S&E) team your purpose is to support and steer ING in managing the compliance risk drivers sustainability and ethics. This covers the end-to-end process (materiality assessment, strategy, risk identification, design to advice, execution, reporting) for the different risk drivers and implement from Global to Local sustainable guidance and standards in all business units. The S&E team takes a lead role in relation to sustainability and ethics risk management.

The team

The Sustainability and Ethics ( S&E) team is a new team created within the Compliance Conduct & Ethics (CC&E) team within Group Compliance. Purpose of the new team is to focus on the interrelated risk drivers sustainability and ethics. Sustainability relates to the wider scope of environmental, social and governance related measures that are identified across the different ING compliance risk frameworks in line with the compliance risk management cycle. Ethics as a risk driver will interact with the different ING compliance frameworks and provide for standards or guidance where relevant. Under ethics the ING Global Code of Conducts and the Whistleblowing reporting policy are captured.

The S&E team shares a collective responsibility for defining the impact of the risk drivers sustainability and ethics. In scope are risk identification and materiality assessment. The team deals with global risk mitigation including defining of guidances and standards, contribute to the definition of control objectives and global training and keep oversight of the global implementation of all requirements by means of creation of risk dashboards, and risk specific reporting. S&E performs horizon scanning to identify any future changes in ING's risk profile or changes in the global regulatory landscape.

As lead for S&E, you will work closely with and report to the Head of CC&E. You are a member of the CC&E Management Team.

Roles and responsibilities

As a Lead Sustainability & Ethics
  • You provide for a clear mission, vision, and work plan for the S&E team, capturing Compliance Next strategic direction.
  • You determine the objectives for your team; You motivate the team, local Sustainability SPOCs, Whistleblowing Reporting SPOCs to commit to these activities.
  • You ensure the roll-out and updating of relevant guidance and standards, assume the advisory role with constructive, feasible and reflective advice, provide for waivers and deviations while reflecting on further process improvement.
  • You design, build and steer a global community for both sustainability and ethics to share knowledge and implement from Global to Local standards in all business units.
  • You pro-actively manage your stakeholders in the areas and levels of the ING organization relevant for your activities, communicate fluently on the team's activities, incorporate input and lessons learned.
  • You support the development and use of data points in relation to sustainability and ethics; You propose and advice on the ING Compliance Risk Appetite Statement for S&E area.
  • You are responsible to support your employees and guide them to further mature. You identify the capabilities needed for the S&E area and prioritize development activities. You promote comparable capabilities in the organization for SPOCs in the S&E area.
  • You empower, steer and develop the S&E team including all related activities, e.g. HR related activities and performance management.
  • You establish, develop and maintain an internal/external, international/domestic network in order to promote ING's interest and to increase his/her own professionalism.

As a Lead Sustainability & Ethics you have the following traits and experience:
  • You are able to set a mission, vision and work plan for the S&E team, capturing Compliance Next strategic direction.
  • You are able to work in a highly flexible and challenging environment, both change and BAU, while identifying actions needed to achieve results.
  • You are a risk manager, familiar with ensuring maturing of control frameworks.
  • You have a profound knowledge of the wide regulatory standards in the area of sustainability and are eager to continue to develop your interest in this highly evolutive area. You have a similarly profound knowledge of the ethics compliance risk area.
  • You have an excellent understanding of the ING organization, the processes, products and services, ING's business lines and organizational units.
  • You are familiar with data management, allowing you to identify and support the use of data in relation to S&E.
  • You communicate your views clearly and strongly to constructively challenge all seniority levels at Group, Segment and local level.
  • You have minimal 5 years of experience in financial or non-financial risk management activities such as conducting risk (self) assessments, key control testing; working with risk frameworks, issue management, financial or non-financial risk reporting.
