International Finance Director

Permanent* / full time (40 hours per week)

*offered on a 12 month contract basis initially, with possibility of extension / move to permanent contract.

Location: The successful candidate must be located in the Netherlands. Therefore interested candidates will need to be willing to relocate to take up this role. Full information on the relocation package and assistance will be provided to candidates who progress within the process. Greenpeace International is looking for an International Finance Director to provide expert leadership and added value for the Finance function, while acting as a key advisor to the Strategic Management Team.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will manage a multinational team and interact with professionals and managers across the globe. Overseeing all financial aspects of the organisational strategy, you will lead and manage the development, execution and delivery of the Finance strategy, goals, policies, systems, performance, planning cycle and reporting across the global Greenpeace network. You will be accountable for all financial performance and reporting issues and will guarantee that Greenpeace International (GPI) is financially sound, in control, compliant, accountable and financially sustainable. You will also facilitate the organisation’s development and strengthening of key financial areas, both operational and strategic.

In this role you will:

• Contribute to the development and realisation of the overall organisational strategy and the GPI strategy from your own functional discipline.
• Facilitate the overall decision making processes – including the long term global campaign programme at strategic level – by providing strong financial analysis, forecasts and advice.
• Identify and assess the financial implications of all business activities and advise the Strategic Management Team (SMT).
• Monitor financial performance of GPI and the independent National/Regional Organisations (NROs).
• Ensure Finance strategy and policies enable and are effectively aligned with other Greenpeace strategies.
• Lead the development and execution of GPI Finance strategy, policies, plans, budgets and practices to ensure accountability, control, transparency and compliance.
• Support the development of Greenpeace’s presence in new priority locations and provide Finance support and services (including systems) to all independent NROs and entities.
• Ensure sufficient financial controls/processes and provide quality financial monitoring/reporting.
• Provide annual reserves analysis to inform decision making and support the development of an integrated risk management framework.
• Drive a dynamic leadership and high performance learning and collaborative culture with open and transparent communication processes, strongly promoting joint accountability and teamwork.
• Build and foster solid, trust-based working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, as well as continuing to develop a business partnering approach in the delivery of Finance services.
• Lead, manage and develop capacity within the Finance department and staff to ensure their effective performance through objective setting, performance reviews, coaching, training and development.

Job requirements

• Extensive experience, including substantial experience gained in senior financial management-leadership within an international context.
• Experience with multicultural senior staff and teams, plus a commitment to diversity in all its aspects.
• A track record of bringing about significant positive changes in work culture, practices and performance.
• Experience of managing and influencing colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, including the ability and integrity to develop trust and credibility.
• Proven successes in a collaborative style of management, with robust coaching skills to enable growth.
• Strategic vision and orientation, coupled to outstanding critical thinking, a hands-on approach and a decisive ability to prioritise goals, ideals and their pursuit.
• Expert relationship-building, negotiation, influencing, communication and presentation skills.
