A General insurance is looking for an Underwriter, cover Hull, Cargo and Marine.

The Role

Business Development & Broker Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key local and international brokers.
• Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing to secure profitable business while maintaining market competitiveness.
• Participate in client meetings and site visits to assess risks firsthand.

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

• Evaluate and underwrite complex marine insurance risks, including Cargo, Hull & Machinery, Liability, and Marine War.
• Analyze exposure data, shipping routes, cargo values, and loss histories to determine appropriate pricing and terms.
• Apply rate changes and review treaty reinsurance structures to ensure optimal risk transfer.
• Ensure underwriting decisions comply with company guidelines, local regulations, and reinsurance requirements.

Portfolio Management

• Monitor the performance of the assigned marine portfolio, focusing on loss ratios, expense ratios, and retention.
• Conduct regular portfolio reviews to identify trends, emerging risks (e.g., geopolitical instability, cyber risks in shipping), and opportunities for growth.
• Manage capacity and aggregate exposure limits.

Your Profile

• Certifications:ANZIIF (Senior Associate/Fellow) or ACII qualification is highly preferred.
• Experience:Minimum 5 to 8 years of underwriting experience within the Hong Kong/Asia insurance market, specifically in Marine & Cargo lines.
