About the Role:
The Catastrophe Analyst supports the CET and the LMR teams regarding the modelling of Nat Cat business in the various territories. The role is team orientated and includes involvement in the technical underwriting of Nat Cat business in collaboration with the Underwriters.
About the Teams:
The Cologne Euro Team (CET) operates as a client oriented non-life treaty reinsurer in all lines of Property & Casualty business (except for credit & bond and aviation insurance). Business is written in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Nordics, MENA and Central/Eastern Europe. Target clients are smaller and mid-sized insurance companies with predominantly private and commercial lines business. In addition, we support a growing number of larger insurers. The team is recognized as expertise driven, innovative and long-term focused with excellent relationships with clients and brokers. The business is underwritten on a model driven technical basis. The London Market Risks (LMR) Team is a core business unit within Liberty Mutual Reinsurance (LM Re) and is comprised of non-proportional treaty reinsurance and retrocession business. The clientele ranges from Lloyd's Syndicates and London Market companies to Global Players and medium sized local Reinsurers.
We are a recognised lead market for specific products covering Property, Marine, Energy, Terrorism, and Personal Accident as well as Whole Account or Umbrella protections combining some of these classes into dedicated solutions for our customers. Strong customer/broker relationships, continuity, reliability, flexibility and a responsive claims service are some of our key business principles and cornerstones of our success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Record and maintain policy and exposure information in modelling systems for assigned classes.
• Use modelling tools (RMS/AIR) to analyse risks on behalf of underwriter's pre-bind.
• Use modelling tools (RMS/AIR/ to complete portfolio rollup reporting to the highest level of quality and completeness possible.
• Modelling and monitoring of both natural catastrophes and Man-Made-Cat such as Strikes, Riots and Civil Commotion (SRCC) and Terrorism. Learn about classes modelled in systems such as RMS and AIR and how to best use catastrophe models.
• Support the development of methodologies to support exposure management practises including the capture of exposures of risk and the development of reporting to assist underwriters in their decision making.
• Work with underwriters, actuaries, operations and other business areas as required to enhance Exposure Management offering to the business stakeholders.
• Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LM Re's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. LM Re expects you to understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and to proactively always demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviours. Skills and Experience:
• University degree in a relevant field (e.g. natural sciences, business, maths, geography, actuarial science).
• Ideally with some years of working experience in reinsurance and / or cat modelling.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to process and understand data quickly and creatively.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Access).
• Knowledge of SQL, VBA, or other programming languages is desirable. • Ability to explain complex topics.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently whilst being an integral part of a time critical business environment.
• Good skills in German and English are essential.
